Cast plate
Archaeological Evidence for Glassworking, Guidelines for Recovering, Analysing and Interpreting Evidence, published by Historic England in 2018, defines cast plate as: ‘A method introduced in the 18th century to make large sheets of flat glass with a good surface finish. Molten glass was cast onto a metal table and rolled into a flat sheet, then polished.’
